The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, organized an Expert Lecture on “Design and Analysis of Asynchronous Sequential Circuits” on 15 October 2026 (Thursday) from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. at the II EEE Classroom. The session was delivered by Dr. V. Parimala, Assistant Professor-III/MI, and Dr. B. Lalitha, Assistant Professor-III/EEE.
The lecture aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the principles and design methodologies of asynchronous sequential circuits. The resource persons explained the fundamental differences between synchronous and asynchronous circuits, emphasizing the role of input changes and feedback mechanisms in determining circuit behaviour.
The session covered the analysis and design of asynchronous sequential circuits, including state diagrams, state tables, flow tables, state reduction, and state assignment. The concepts of stable and unstable states, race conditions, and hazards were discussed to help students understand the challenges involved in designing reliable asynchronous digital systems. Suitable examples were used to illustrate circuit analysis, design procedures, and the importance of eliminating unwanted transitions.
The lecture provided students with an opportunity to strengthen their theoretical knowledge and apply systematic approaches to digital circuit design. The interactive discussions helped clarify key concepts and highlighted the relevance of asynchronous circuits in high-speed digital systems and other electronic applications.
At the end of the session, students were able to differentiate synchronous and asynchronous sequential circuits, analyze circuit behaviour using state tables and flow tables, apply systematic design procedures, and identify race conditions and hazards in asynchronous circuits. The programme strengthened their analytical and problem-solving skills in digital system design.
