The MBA students participated in an interactive Business Analytics poster presentation titled “The Data Crime Scene – Case File 003: Who Killed the Profit?” The activity was designed to develop analytical thinking, data interpretation, problem-solving, and evidence-based decision-making skills through a simulated business investigation.
Using a retail business case, students investigated the reasons behind declining profits despite increased sales. They analysed data related to discounts, marketing expenditure, logistics costs, inventory wastage, supplier costs, and product returns. Through the interpretation of tables and numerical clues, students identified potential causes of profit reduction, distinguished revenue from profitability, and proposed data-driven corrective actions.
The activity encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, practical application of business analytics, and evidence-based managerial decision-making, enabling students to understand how data analytics supports effective business performance evaluation and strategic decisions.
