1. Introduction
The Department of Chemical Engineering, KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, organized an expert talk titled “Chemical Process Simulation for Chemical Engineers” on 26 September 2026 through an online platform. The session was designed to provide students with practical, industry-oriented exposure to process simulation and its role in chemical engineering design, operation, optimization and decision-making.
2. Objectives of the Event
· To introduce students to the fundamentals of chemical process simulation.
· To connect theoretical chemical engineering concepts with industrial process applications.
· To understand how simulation supports process design, analysis, optimization and operation.
· To expose students to industry practices, process modelling approaches and digital engineering tools.
· To encourage students to interact with an industry expert and clarify technical and career-related questions.
3. Resource Person
The expert session was delivered by Mr. V. G. Charan Pruthvi, Executive Engineer at Yokogawa India Private Limited (YIL). The speaker discussed chemical process simulation from fundamental concepts through industrial applications and illustrated how simulation can support safer, more efficient and better-controlled process operations.
4. Session Highlights
· Overview of chemical process modelling and simulation.
· Role of simulation in process design and engineering analysis.
· Application of simulation for process optimization and operational improvement.
· Industrial process representation and digital process interfaces.
· Discussion on steady-state and dynamic process considerations.
· Importance of accurate input data and process conditions in simulation studies.
· Industry-oriented perspectives on process control, automation and digitalization.
· Interaction with students through questions and answers.
5. Student Interaction and Q&A
The session included an interactive question-and-answer segment in which students raised technical and career-oriented questions. The discussion covered topics such as the role of AI and machine learning alongside conventional process models, handling incorrect or invalid simulation input data, and opportunities for internships and industry exposure.
Discussion Topic | Key Point Raised |
Simulation data validation | Students asked how engineers can distinguish whether an unexpected simulation result is caused by incorrect input data or unsuitable process conditions. |
AI and machine learning | A question was raised on how AI and machine learning can complement traditional first-principles process models. |
Industry internships | Students asked about internship opportunities for Chemical Engineering students and whether internship performance can support future full-time opportunities. |
