SEISMIC ANALYSIS & DESIGN OF STRUCTURES SEISMIC ANALYSIS & DESIGN OF STRUCTURES
Outcome
Summary
Ms. Kavitha started the workshop by discussing the basics of Seismic Analysis and Design of Structures. She explained the importance of designing structures to withstand the effects of earthquakes and the various factors that affect the seismic performance of structures. Then she discussed the various seismic design codes and standards used in India, including the Indian Standards (IS) and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). She explained the importance of understanding these codes and standards to ensure that the structures are designed to meet the safety requirements.
Ms. Kavitha then discussed the different types of earthquakes and their effects on structures. She explained how the ground motion generated by an earthquake can cause structural damage and the different types of damage that can occur and then discussed the various methods of seismic analysis, including the response spectrum method, the time history method, and the equivalent static force method. She explained the advantages and disadvantages of each method and provided insights on how to choose the appropriate method based on the type of structure being analyzed.
Ms. Kavitha then discussed the various factors that affect the seismic performance of structures, including the type of soil, the geometry of the structure, and the materials used in construction. She provided insights on how to optimize these factors to ensure that the structures are designed to withstand the effects of earthquakes. The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, where the students had the opportunity to clarify their doubts and ask questions on various aspects of Seismic Analysis and Design of Structures.
In conclusion, the workshop on Seismic Analysis and Design of Structures presented by Ms. R. Kavitha, Assistant Professor with more than 10 years of industry experience in L & T, was informative and insightful. The workshop provided valuable insights on the basics of Seismic Analysis and Design of Structures, the different seismic design codes and standards used in India, and the various factors that affect the seismic performance of structures. The students were motivated to learn more about Seismic Analysis and Design of Structures and apply their knowledge in their future endeavors.
