Summary

The session was conducted by Mr. Sanjai and Mr. Sunilkumar, Final Year Biomedical Engineering students, who shared their knowledge and practical experience in 3D modelling and additive manufacturing. The workshop witnessed the active participation of 18 students.

The workshop commenced with an introduction to 3D printing technology, covering its working principles, printing methods, commonly used materials, and applications in engineering, healthcare, and biomedical engineering. The speakers explained how digital models are transformed into physical objects through layer-by-layer fabrication.

Participants were then introduced to Blender, an open-source 3D modelling software. The session covered the Blender interface, navigation tools, object manipulation, scaling, rotation, and basic modelling techniques. With hands-on guidance from the speakers, each participant successfully designed an individual 3D model, enabling them to apply the concepts learned during the session.

The speakers also demonstrated Sketchfab, an online platform for viewing, sharing, and presenting interactive 3D models. Students learned how completed models can be uploaded and visualized in an interactive environment. The workshop further covered Cura, a slicing software used to prepare 3D models for printing. Participants learned how to import models, configure print settings, generate G-code, and understand key slicing parameters such as layer height, infill density, print speed, support structures, and build plate adhesion.

The workshop concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where participants clarified their doubts regarding 3D modelling and additive manufacturing. Overall, the event provided valuable practical exposure to Blender, Sketchfab, Cura, and 3D printing technologies. The active participation of the students and the efforts of the IEEE EMBS Society members contributed to the successful execution of the workshop, making it an informative and engaging learning experience.
