Summary

The students were introduced to the world of engineering through simple examples from their everyday surroundings. The session highlighted how engineers design, develop, test and improve products and systems used in daily life. A hands-on tower-building activity was conducted using paper cups and sticks. Students participated in teams and were encouraged to construct stable towers using the available materials. The programme helped students to:

  • Gain basic awareness about engineering and its applications.

  • Understand the importance of reliability and safety.

  • Develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

  • Improve teamwork and communication.

  • Understand how engineering failures can lead to better designs.

  • Develop curiosity and interest towards STEM and engineering careers.

The programme demonstrated that simple, activity-based learning can effectively create awareness about engineering among school students. The students were encouraged to think, design, test, learn from failure and improve, thereby developing the mindset required for future engineers.
