The IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS), KPRIET Student Branch, successfully organized "MedVerse – Where AR, VR & 3D Modeling Transform Healthcare" on 18th July 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Biomechanics Lab. The event aimed to introduce students to emerging immersive technologies and their applications in healthcare. The workshop was coordinated by Ms. Aarthiga Lakshmi S. J., Public Relations Officer, III BME, with the support of the IEEE EMBS Society members.
The session was delivered by Ms. Subathira, who served as the Guest Speaker. A total of 43 students enthusiastically participated in the event.
The workshop began with an introduction to Spatial Computing and its role in transforming modern healthcare. The speaker explained the concepts of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR), and Extended Reality (XR), highlighting the differences between these technologies and their applications in medical education, patient care, rehabilitation, anatomy visualization, surgical planning, and clinical training.
A major highlight of the session was the presentation of several AR and VR projects developed by the guest speaker. These projects demonstrated how immersive technologies can assist individuals with multiple disabilities by providing interactive learning experiences, rehabilitation support, communication assistance, and improved accessibility. The real-world demonstrations gave participants valuable insight into how technology can be used to create inclusive healthcare solutions and improve the quality of life for patients.
The session also covered the fundamentals of 3D printing and its growing importance in biomedical engineering. Students learned about the use of additive manufacturing in developing anatomical models, customized prosthetics, surgical guides, medical prototypes, and patient-specific healthcare solutions. The complete workflow from digital design to physical fabrication was briefly discussed.
An interactive discussion encouraged students to explore research opportunities in AR, VR, MR, XR, spatial computing, and 3D printing. Participants actively engaged with the guest speaker by asking questions about the technologies, their real-world implementation, and future career opportunities in the field.
The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, where students clarified their doubts regarding immersive healthcare technologies. Overall, the workshop provided valuable exposure to cutting-edge technologies and demonstrated how innovation can be used to improve healthcare accessibility and patient outcomes. The active participation of the students and the dedicated efforts of the IEEE EMBS Society members contributed to the successful execution of the event.
