Under the industry-supported U21GEX07 Vertical Transportation Systems course designed by KONE Elevators, Chennai, KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology conducted an expert lecture on “Embedded Systems in Elevators.” The session was led by Mr. S. Joe Infant, Associate Lead – Software, Electrification, KONE Elevators India Private Limited, Chennai, who brought valuable expertise in software integration and embedded control technologies used in modern elevator systems.
The lecture focused on the critical role of embedded systems in elevator automation and intelligent control. Mr. Joe Infant explained how microcontrollers, processors, sensors, firmware, and software-based control architectures are used to manage elevator functions such as movement coordination, door operation, floor selection, fault detection, and passenger safety. He also discussed the implementation of real-time monitoring systems, communication protocols, and software reliability in elevator performance.
A key highlight of the session was the introduction to advanced digital solutions in elevator technology, including smart diagnostics, predictive maintenance, automated control systems, and software-driven safety mechanisms. Students were able to understand how embedded systems connect electrical, mechanical, and software components into a unified vertical transportation solution.
