The Department of Mathematics organized a GUEST LECTURE ON APPLICATION OF STATISTICS IN ENGINEERING for II year Chemical Engineering students on 1.11.2022. The program started with Tamil Thai Valthu followed by KPR anthem. Prof. Dr. P.Geetha, Director/ Freshmen Programme introduced the resource person Dr.V.Sangeetha, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore and also she explained the background of the guest lecture in her welcome address. The session started with questions about the basics of Statistics. In today’s data-driven world, the application of statistics in everyday life is an ever-present reality that touches all aspects of society. Though the field of statistics originated centuries ago, the impact has exploded in recent years as modern statisticians have advanced applications of statistics through innovative, problem-solving approaches. Engineering also finds widespread applications of statistics in different domains such as production planning, quality control and management, process control, measurement system error analysis, robustness analysis, risk assessment etc. She explained about the testing of hypothesis of small and large sample tests and the applications of testing of hypothesis in Engineering. After that she talked about the one way and two-way classification of ANOVA table and applications of ANOVA table. She discussed about the Engineering Statistics in the Students. Engineering statistics combines engineering and statistics using scientific methods for analyzing data. Engineering statistics involves data concerning manufacturing processes such as: component dimensions, tolerances, type of material, and fabrication process control. There are many methods used in engineering analysis and they are often displayed as histograms to give a visual of the data as opposed to being just numerical. The students were very much interacted with our resource person. The Guest Lecture on Application Of Statistics in Engineering came to end with the vote of thanks by Dr.P.Suriyakumar coordinator of this program. The session ended with National Anthem.
