Outcome of the Event:

The guest lecture on "Design of Home Automation System using Embedded Technology," held on 18th October 2024 at Thanam Hall, was highly successful in achieving its objectives of imparting advanced knowledge and practical skills to students. Led by Dr. K. Subramanian, Technical Manager at Shaansun Technology Solution, Coimbatore, the session provided students with an in-depth understanding of the principles and applications of embedded systems in home automation.

Dr. Subramanian highlighted the importance of integrating sensors and microcontrollers, such as ESP32, to automate household tasks efficiently. His comprehensive approach included a detailed explanation of the design and coding aspects involved in developing a home automation system. The use of the Wokwi - ESP32 Simulator tool added a valuable practical dimension to the lecture, as students could visualize and interact with the simulation of a home automation setup. This hands-on experience was particularly beneficial for students, as it bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications.

The interactive nature of the lecture allowed students to engage with the expert, ask questions, and discuss challenges they might face when implementing such systems. This interactive engagement not only enhanced their understanding but also sparked enthusiasm for exploring further projects in the field of home automation.

The event concluded with positive feedback from students, who appreciated the clarity of the explanations and the opportunity to gain practical exposure. Many expressed a renewed interest in embedded technology, viewing it as a viable area for future projects and research. Overall, the guest lecture effectively equipped students with the skills and confidence to work on innovative home automation systems using embedded technology.

Event Report:

  • The event began with a welcome address delivered by Kavya R from IV Year-EEE, who introduced the resource person, Dr. K. Subramanian, and highlighted his contributions in the field of embedded systems and home automation.

  • Dr. K. Subramanian led the lecture by addressing the design principles and implementation techniques for home automation systems using embedded technology. He explained how various sensors and controllers like ESP32 can be used to automate household functions efficiently.

  • A significant part of the lecture was dedicated to a live demonstration using the Wokwi - ESP32 Simulator tool. Dr. Subramanian showcased real-time simulations and walked the students through the coding process, demonstrating how to build and test a home automation system virtually.

  • The session was interactive, with students actively participating and engaging in discussions about practical challenges and solutions in implementing such systems.

The lecture concluded with a vote of thanks by Subashree B from IV Year-EEE, expressing gratitude to the resource person for his valuable insights and expertise. She also thanked the faculty members and students for their active participation.
