Overview

The Department of Mathematics at KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology organized a one-week online training program on 'Teaching Mathematics with MATLAB' from June 10, 2024, to June 14, 2024. This training aimed to enhance the teaching skills of mathematics educators by providing them with practical knowledge of MATLAB.

A total of 25 participants, including faculty members and research scholars, attended the program.

Coordination and Resource Persons

Dr. P. Suriyakumar, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and the program coordinator, introduced the resource persons: Mr. Gowtham Rajmohan and Mr. S. Afsal from ARK Infosolutions Pvt. Ltd., Chennai.

Session Summaries

Day 1: Mr. Gowtham Rajmohan and Mr. S. Afsal led the first day’s session, covering the applications of MATLAB and its importance. They also discussed how to map CO-PO attainment.

Day 2: MathWorks expert Deb Singdeo conducted the second day's session, focusing on numerical analysis using MATLAB. Participants learned various innovative ideas about numerical methods.

Days 3 and 4: During the third and fourth days, our faculty members engaged in discussions with the resource persons and completed three self-paced courses as part of the training program.

Day 5: On the last day, Mr. S. Afsal delivered a session on MATLAB Grader, explaining how to use it for assigning tasks and assessments.

Outcomes

Participants reported a significant increase in their confidence in using MATLAB for teaching mathematics. Many expressed their intention to integrate MATLAB into their curriculum and share the knowledge with colleagues.

Conclusion

The one-week training program on 'Teaching Mathematics with MATLAB' successfully achieved its objectives. The positive feedback and active engagement of participants highlighted the program’s impact.
