Summary

The Student Development Programme aimed to enhance the communication and interpersonal skills of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) students through a structured group discussion session. Led by Ms. Sharmila.K, Assistant Professor of the English Department, and coordinated by Dr. Sathishkumar P and Dr. Suvitha Subramaniam, the session provided students with a platform to express their ideas, improve their ability to articulate thoughts, and foster collaboration and critical thinking.

The Group Discussion session, held in Veena Hall, commenced promptly at 3:00 PM and lasted for one hour. Ms. Sharmila.K, along with the coordinators Dr. Sathishkumar P and Dr. Suvitha Subramaniam, facilitated the session, guiding students through various discussion topics tailored to enhance their communication skills and critical thinking abilities.

Introduction and Ice-breaking Activity: Ms. Sharmila initiated the session with a warm welcome and introduced the importance of effective communication in academic and professional spheres. An ice-breaking activity followed, allowing students to introduce themselves and share interesting facts about their interests or hobbies.

Guidelines for Group Discussion: Dr. Sathishkumar P and Dr. Suvitha presented guidelines for conducting fruitful group discussions, emphasizing active listening, respectful dialogue, and the importance of considering diverse perspectives.

Discussion Topics: A range of thought-provoking topics relevant to technology, ethics, and societal impacts were presented to the students. These topics were carefully selected to stimulate critical thinking and encourage students to engage in meaningful discourse.

Group Formation and Moderated Discussion: Students were divided into small groups under the guidance of Ms. Sharmila and the coordinators. Each group engaged in moderated discussions, with facilitators providing feedback and encouragement to ensure active participation and constructive dialogue.

Feedback and Reflection: Towards the end of the session, students were encouraged to share their feedback and reflections on the experience. They expressed appreciation for the opportunity to improve their communication skills and highlighted the value of engaging in collaborative discussions.

The Student Development Programme's Group Discussion session, led by Ms. Sharmila and coordinated by Dr. Sathishkumar P and Dr. Suvitha, proved to be highly beneficial for CSE students.
