HANDS ON TRAINING ON STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN USING ETABS, KPR Institute Engineering and Technology, Autonomous Engineering Institution, Coimbatore, India

Department of Civil Engineering and BIM centre of Excellence organised the hands on training on structral analysis and design using Etabs for final year students. Around 8 students particiipated in this hands on training. Mrs.Kavitha explained abourt the analysis softwares and taught about the commands of Etabs software .She explained the live example of residential building .From the architectural plan how to position the column , slab thickness and beam position .She has given tips for fixing the beam size and column sizes. She explained about the material properties, frame sections and loading details. she compared the manual calculation with softwares and she showed the bending moment and shear force diagram .she showed the manual calculations for slab and footing design .she explained how to take the column reactions taken from the software for doing foundation design .She showed the CSI detailing plugin software and how to detail the structural elements and to extract the drawings from software. She demonstated the input details given in the software. She has given project for students. Students has completed their projects with so enthustiatic . Students have asked various doubts and Mrs .Kavitha clarified their doubts .At the end of the session ,Students get explore in the load calculation,material properties,section properties .They are able to analyse and design the residential building .It will be usefule for their placements.Students has given excellent feed back about the session and they want to explore more software and requested this type of session in future .
