Department of Civil Engineering organized a 2 days One Credit Course for the students of Third Year Civil Engineering on the topic ' Vernacular Architecture'. This course is partnered with SKV Constructions, Coimbatore and the resource person was Er. Vijayakumar, Proprietor, SKV Constructions.
Day 1 - The course began with the introduction about the traditional construction practices which is followed and the effective implementation of utilizing the locally available materials for construction purpose. Resource person Er. Vijayakumar started the session with deliberating the materials conventionally used in the construction. Later on the same day students were taken to the product manufacturing plant and were explained the process of manufacturing soil compressed blocks with the locally materials after which they were taken to construction site. He insisted the students about the savings in cost by vernacular practice.
Day 2- Session began with the refresher quiz session about the contents delivered on Day 1. Later then, the resource person gave several insights to the students about the earthen buildings and its history. He also gave more clarity about earthen blocks and its material specification with its advantages to the students. He also discussed about his current project and its technical description using locally available materials at karumathampatti site, coimbatore He also clarified the questions raised by the students and interacted with them.
