To enhance the knowledge in the waste water treatment: reverse osmosis practices to the students, an expert talk was arranged on 05.03.2024. Mr. Silvano Storti, CEO of EUROPROGETTI SRL, Italy is expert in effluent/ water treatment. He delivered a lecture about waste water treatment: reverse osmosis practices. Students were interacted well and clarified their doubts with an expert. He explained with the following simple procedure.
Reverse osmosis (RO) is a water purification process that removes contaminants by using pressure to force water molecules through a semipermeable membrane. Here's a brief overview:
Pre-treatment: Water is pre-treated to remove large particles and chlorine that can damage the RO membrane.
High Pressure: High pressure is applied to the water, pushing it through the RO membrane.
Membrane Filtration: The semipermeable membrane allows only water molecules to pass through, blocking contaminants like salts, bacteria, and chemicals.
Purified Water: The filtered water (permeate) is collected on the other side of the membrane, while the concentrated contaminants (reject or brine) are discharged.
This process effectively produces clean, potable water by removing impurities and is widely used in drinking water purification, desalination, and wastewater treatment.
