The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized a one credit course on 'U21OEE03 - ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN ELECTRICAL UTILITIES' (SESSION - 1) on 28/10/2023
(Saturday) from 09.00 AM to 04.00 PM exclusively for the second year students of EEE. A heart-warming welcome was delivered by Dr. V. S. Chandrika, Professor, Dept. of EEE. Dr. S. Thangapandiyan, Production Manager, Enbest Pumps India Private Limited, Coimbatore delivered a valuable lecture on the topic of ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN ELECTRICAL UTILITIES.
He covered the following topics during forenoon and afternoon sessions.
Forenoon:
ENERGY SCENARIO: Introduction, Classification of Energy – Primary and Secondary Energy, Commercial Energy and Non-commercial Energy and Renewable & Non-renewable energy; Various forms of Energy – potential and kinetic energy; Energy reserves and production; , Energy consumption, Energy units & conversions.
Afternoon:
ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM UTILITIES: Introduction to electric power supply systems, Electricity billing, Electrical load management and maximum demand control, Transformers, Distribution losses in industrial system, Assessment of transmission and distribution losses in power systems, Estimation of technical losses in distribution system, Demand side management, Harmonics, Analysis of electric power systems.
The speaker covered everything that the electrical engineering students and practicing engineers need to know about energy efficiency in electrical utilities. He also cleared all the queries of the participants in a detailed way. The participants gave a very good feedback on the presentation of the speaker. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. I. Baranilingesan, Assistant Professor (Sl.G.) / EEE.
There were 71 second year students who attended the course and got benefited. The department of EEE thanks the management for providing this opportunity to conduct the one credit course successfully.
