The main objective of the workshop is to enlighten the advances in different welding processes and also provide fundamental knowledge about the wire arc additive manufacturing process. The Registration process begins at 8.45 am and 147 participants are present for this workshop, which includes 42 external participants.  The workshop was inaugurated by Dr.S.Ramesh Babu, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology.

The technical sessions started at 9.45 a.m. and three technical lectures were delivered by eminent experts in the field of welding. Dr.N.Raju Hon. Zonal Secretary-IWS, Welding Research Institute, BHEL, Tiruchirapalli, presented the fundamentals of various welding processes, as well as their variants and applications in reality. He excellently contrasted the differences between welding processes.

The second session began at 11 a.m., following the tea break. Dr.B.Shanmugarajan, Deputy General Manager, Welding Research Institute, BHEL, Tiruchirapalli discussed need for advanced welding processes such as electron beam welding and laser welding. He also went over the fundamentals of the wire arc additive manufacturing process. The third session started after lunch break at 2.00 pm. Dr.N.Murugan, Professor, Department of Robotics and Automation Engineering, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, gave a lecture on the research perspective of wire arc additive manufacturing. He discussed the impact of process parameters and defects created during wire arc additive manufacturing. He also described the metallurgical changes that took place during the process.
