To commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Department of Mathematics is hosting the 'National Mathematics Week' from December 18th to 23rd, 2023, with the inaugural event scheduled at Thanam Hall on December 18th. The session featured an expert lecture on the 'Life, Work, and Legacy of Srinivasa Ramanujan.' The program commenced with the rendition of Tamil Thai Valthu, followed by the KPR anthem. Professor Dr. K. Karthikeyan, the Head of the Mathematics Department, introduced the distinguished speaker, Dr. R. Ramesh, a Professor from the Department of Mathematics at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore.On the second day, a Film show on Ramanujan's Life took place at Ragam Hall on December 19th, 2023, with students showing keen interest in the movie. The third day featured a Drawing Competition centered around Ramanujan's Life and his innovations, with 40 students participating and 3 students ultimately selected for recognition.
The fourth day included a Presentation by students on any innovation or new ideas in mathematics, conducted at Pallavi Hall. A total of 65 students participated, and 3 teams were selected for their outstanding contributions. The fifth day showcased a Quiz competition on Ramanujan's Life and works, with 52 students participating and 3 teams selected for their achievements.
On the last day, a Workshop on Vedic Mathematics was held at Veena Hall, featuring Dr. R. Santhi, Associate Professor, and Dr. S. Sowmiya, Assistant Professor, from the Department of Mathematics at Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College, Coimbatore-22, as resource persons. The workshop, titled 'A One-day Workshop on Vedic Mathematics,' took place on December 23, 2023, where the speakers delivered engaging speeches on Vedic mathematics, imparting valuable knowledge to the students. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where our Principal, Dr. M. Ramasamy, acted as the chief guest, presenting certificates to the deserving prize winners.
